Nerd sword FOR SALE

The sword is based on the character Kratos' swords the Blades Of Chaos (and slightly Blades Of Athena) from the God Of War video game series.

I'll have to admit: this is by far one of the guilty pleasures I've had in a while. I mean, making a sword out of wood, that was based on a video game? – Doesn't get much nerdier than that. But it was still very fun to make, though..

The blade with the grip is actually two (or three, can't remember) wooden planks glued together, with the crossguard made out of two separate pieces of wood on either side glued to the rest, then covered with resin to make it smoother. After it dried, I then added two or three more coats of resin. I then painted the blade with metal paint (which seemed to take forever to dry..) The crossguard and pommel were painted with some very expensive gold paint (which, apparently had real gold in it) plus a coat or two of transparent varnish to make the gold go all "bling". After covering the grip with some black fabric ripped from old t-shirts (hah) I went on to decorate the blade, using black acrylics paint, and red posca markers.

As the more nerdy of you might have realized already, this doesn't look 100% like the Blades Of Chaos that you know for some reasons; I removed the skull/teeth like thingy for two reasons (hang on, this gets nerdy):
A, I think it looked fucking stupid and out of place, and
B, If anyone who designed that sword had made some sort of replica in real life, they would have soon figured out that a huge lump of skull thing/whatever placed near the hilt would no doubt throw the sword off balance very easily and render it almost useless.
But who knows, maybe the damn skull thing was all magical and shit, and barfed hellfire rainbows all over your enemies. I dunno.
I also think the chains would get in the way, but you know..they kinda had to stay, since they're practically a big part of the sword in a way..

So, basically, I redesigned the whole thing, and made it as practical as I could (I'm no sword maker, but still), but obviously tried to keep it cool and awesome and "in character".
